Project Director
Ready for your next career move? Join the Naylor team and start your journey onward.
About us
Kiwi owned and operating since 1910, Naylor Love is one of New Zealand's largest commercial construction companies. With over 900 people delivering 100+ projects nationwide, we are known for high-quality outcomes and a strong, values-led culture.
At Naylor Love, our values guide everything we do. We care about our people, our clients, and our communities, and we take pride in delivering with integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.
The opportunity
Due to internal movement and continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced Project Director to join our Wellington team.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple projects or large, complex builds. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will provide commercial oversight, governance, and leadership across a portfolio of work, while supporting and developing Project Managers and senior project staff.
You will be part of the Wellington senior leadership group, contributing to regional strategy, business planning, and client relationships. This role suits someone who enjoys operating at a senior level, balancing commercial detail with people leadership and long-term thinking.
Wellington projects are typically managed as portfolios rather than single mega-projects, with Project Directors overseeing key clients and sectors such as health, education, and government. While there is a strong healthcare pipeline, experience in any commercial construction sector is welcomed.
What you will be doing:
Providing senior commercial and contractual oversight across multiple projects
Leading, mentoring, and supporting Project Managers and senior team members
Managing client relationships and supporting tendering and work-winning activity
Ensuring consistent governance, risk management, and performance across the portfolio
Working closely with operational and commercial leaders to support project success
Contributing to the wider leadership and strategic direction of the Wellington region
Approximately 60% of the role has a commercial and contractual focus, with project teams driving day-to-day delivery.
What we are looking for
We are keen to hear from senior construction professionals who bring strong commercial insight, proven people leadership, and the ability to oversee multiple projects with confidence.
You will ideally bring the following:
Proven experience leading large or complex commercial construction projects
Direct leadership experience of Project Managers and senior project staff
Strong commercial and contractual capability
Confidence managing client relationships and contributing to winning work
A governance mindset and the ability to see the bigger picture
Alignment with Naylor Love values of consideration, relationships, integrity, teamwork, and excellence
Why join Naylor Love
When you join Naylor Love, you will see our philosophy of "our people are our brand" in action. We offer a collaborative, supportive environment where people are trusted, developed, and given ownership of their work.
Alongside a competitive salary, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including the following:
Southern Cross medical insurance for you and your whanau, including pre-existing conditions
Paid parental leave and the option to purchase additional leave
Annual health checks, flu vaccinations, and skin checks
Children's scholarships for construction-related study
Staff purchasing benefits
Volunteer days to support your community
Professional development and clear career progression opportunities
Free, confidential counselling and support services
Location and flexibility
This role is based in Wellington. While local knowledge and connections are valuable, we are open to candidates relocating for the right opportunity. Some regional travel is required.
Work is primarily office-based, with flexibility around start and finish times.
